Academic Schedule:  May - August 2026, full-time, 40 hours per week

Essential Responsibilities

 

  • Improve critical business processes and drive financial results.
  • Identify project scopes, developing project plans and business cases.
  • Work with project team members; track / measure project result
  • Work with Manufacturing and Engineering to streamline processes and increase yields using Six Sigma Lean principles
  • Designs and implements processing methods including rubber molding solutions to reduce variability and control costs.

 

  • Lead Projects:  Lead improvement projects within the value center and effectively coordinate these projects with the value center champion and other improvement project teams.  Project leadership includes identifying opportunities, defining and financially justifying projects, launching project teams, using good project management to manage team activities, leading teams to execute projects with the problem-solving methodology, tracking project status and results, removing and elevating project barriers, and developing team members.
  • Measure Results:  Manage the development and maintenance of methods and systems for measuring the degree to which the project goals, objectives and metrics are being met.  Provide value center champion with the results and recommend appropriate corrective action.
  • Recruit and train team members:  Provide training and coaching to team members to spread the base of Six Sigma Problem Solving tools and increase their team effectiveness.
  • Communication: Ensure 2-way open communications take place throughout the organization with respect to VBSS projects.  This includes keeping management informed of program status and ensuring coordination of activities with other black belts.  This also includes capturing project case histories that can be re-used for other projects and submitting them in a Best Practices format when appropriate.
  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions. May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
  • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification
  • requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.  Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • Participate in design reviews and work with Design/Product Engineering to ensure manufacturability and cost effectiveness of proposed designs.
  • Utilize PFMEA and other techniques to establish process controls in manufacturing with a focus on reduction of variability and very high levels of quality control.
  • Compile and write assembly process documentation/procedures and provide technical support and guidance to quality assurance, quality control, engineering and sales.
  • Recommend and implement improvements and/or modifications to operation sequences resulting in reduction of scrap and cost savings.
  • Specify, justify, and implement capital equipment.
  • Recommends and drives technical dispositions for component MRB issues within assigned product line scope.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on product/process failures and be able to recommend and implement necessary corrective action to eliminate problem.

Position Requirements

Position Requirements

  • Enrolled in Process / Industrial / Manufacturing Engineering in pursuit of Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Cable, over-mold experience a PLUS
  • Working knowledge of Engineering functions. 
  • Project Management and multi-tasking preferred; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to learn and perform statistical analysis.
  • CAD, ProE of tool design experience helpful. Must possess strong communication skills.
  • Design for Manufacturability and Lean/Single Piece Flow knowledge/experience is a plus.
  • Computer Skills:  Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Access preferred
  • Soft skills preferred: Value-Based Decision Making, Effective Communication, Influence, Driving Change, Collaboration and Teamwork, Process Improvement, Prioritization and Planning, Results Oriented, Business Acumen, Customer Focus
